  1. Prep the bread: Dry the bread slices in the oven at 200°F for 10 minutes. This helps the bread soak up the custard without becoming mushy.
  2. Mix the base: In a bowl, thoroughly dissolve the sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the eggs and melted butter.
  3. Combine: Whisk in the milk and the vanilla and almond extracts.
  4. Soak: Soak each slice of bread for 10–15 seconds per side, turning until the bread is fully saturated.
  5. Cook: Heat a pan with butter over medium heat. Fry the slices until golden. While frying, sprinkle each side with a little extra sugar to create a caramelized crust.
